Environment

The area is full of activities, every weekend there is a market or flea market somewhere. But history is also still very much present, as in Autun. There is something for everyone here, building dams in the river, sifting through old buildings or strolling around a market, everything is there for a relaxing time.

There is plenty to see and do around Luzy. You can make the trips as long as you want, having a picnic in the forest or at the water's edge along the way. Of course, with the many restaurants that cook at noon (but also in the evening), there is a great alternative to the picnic basket.

Autun

Autun is the nearest larger city. Here you can find various remains from Roman times, such as an open-air theater. Furthermore, the cathedral is also a beautiful sight. The market here is always a pleasant bustle, large in the summer, on the square and under the town hall. Next to it is the impressive contemporary theatre.

Arroux

You can also swim in the river Arroux in various places. But perhaps the most beautiful place is at Saint Nizier sur Arroux. Here is a small dam in the river, which provides a new start of the flow. Many large boulders that can be climbed, but it is also a nice place to go fishing. A very nice place with beautiful views for young and old!

La Boulaye

Something you might not expect to find is the Buddhist temple of La Boulaye. An impressively beautiful building and garden. Here you can visit a whole other world. There are gigantic paintings of Buddhas and in the garden is a special Tibetan monument.

Markets

In many places there are weekly of bi-weekly markets.. These markets are often fun to visit and buy local things, such as food or souvenirs. In the events tab you can find out more about which markets are when. There are also, usually in the weekends, nice brocantes or vide-greniers (attic clearances). Here you can often also eat from the local association, which in turn raises money for other village activities or plans.

Emmaus

In Etang sur Arroux there is a large thrift store, which is called the Emmaus. When the weather is not so good, it's a nice outing to browse around.

Gallo-Roman excavations

In Bibracte on Mont Beuvray there are large Gallo-Roman excavations in a great hiking forest. Here you can learn a lot about the Roman era. For a day out with the children you can go to Le Pal, where there is a zoo and amusement park.
